Karen Funston is a founding partner of the firm. She focuses her practice serving nonprofit and alternatively structured organizations with governance, employment matters, funding, and legal compliance. Karen’s experiences working with a variety of organizations in the private, public and nonprofit sectors give her a broad understanding of practical as well as legal issues. She advises organizations in long term planning and routine transactions as well as assisting organizations faced with a crisis.
Karen is skilled at advising her clients and employs an innovative approach to organizational structures and transactions. Her experiences give her the ability to see all sides of an issue, and enables her to provide clients with the necessary information to make the right choices. Karen understands the complexities of operating all types organizations and works to promote best practices. Her previous experience serving businesses, public entities, and individuals combines with her practical approach to problem solving makes her a valuable counselor to her clients.
Before becoming an attorney, Karen earned a Masters Degree with a focus on Public Administration, served as Director of the Bellingham Food Bank Network, and as an administrator for Womencare Shelter. She also worked as an administrative staff member for the Whatcom County Department of Public Works, and as a bookkeeper for various local for-profit businesses. Karen enjoys her work and being involved in the local community.
